Requirements elicitation is a fundamental phase in the requirements engineering process for software projects. Since the User Interface (UI) design is part of most software projects these days, this paper presents the results of a survey conducted among designers to explore the application of various requirements elicitation techniques in different types of UI design projects. The survey results indicate that the choice of requirements elicitation technique depends not only on the characteristics of the techniques themselves but also on other factors, such as project type, project scope, stakeholder availability, and time constraints. The study concludes that techniques such as interviews, focus groups, and observation are applicable when the project does not have strict time constraints and stakeholders are available. On the other hand, surveys are useful when data from a large number of respondents is needed in a short time. Requirements reusing and document analysis depend on the availability of existing requirements and documents, while brainstorming and prototyping stand out as the most popular requirements elicitation techniques among designers.
