The University of Naples Federico II, recognizing the need to enhance the efficiency and accessibility of its academic services, initiated a strategic plan to modernize its infrastructure. The increasing demands of a large academic community, involving nearly 100,000 students and staff, revealed critical bottlenecks in managing exam reservations, data synchronization, and scalability. A thorough analysis identified the need for tools capable of ensuring efficient resource management, real-time data synchronization, and the flexibility to adapt to evolving requirements. Following an extensive market analysis, Terraform [3] and Oracle GoldenGate were selected as the most suitable tools to address these challenges. Terraform, with its Infrastructure as Code (IaC) capabilities, simplifies cloud resource provisioning and enables scalable and consistent configurations. Meanwhile, Oracle GoldenGate facilitates seamless, low-latency synchronization between on-premises and cloud systems, addressing critical data replication needs. Currently, comprehensive tests are underway to compare the performance of the upgraded infrastructure against the previous system, focusing on response times and workload efficiency. Early results demonstrate significant improvements in operational efficiency and scalability. Looking forward, the university envisions integrating AI-driven analytics to further enhance academic services and identify emerging needs. This project represents a critical milestone in creating a resilient, scalable, and modern infrastructure that aligns with the evolving demands of the academic community.
