Modern battlefield networks (BN) must be flexible and robust to handle the lack of infrastructure, diverse devices, and dynamic topologies. A key challenge is ensuring the rapid spread of vital messages through network-centric Command and Control (C2) systems for situational awareness and effective decision-making in multi-domain operations (MDO). This study explores the enhancement of communication on the BN through the integration of P4 and SDN techniques, from a practical perspective. Modifications to the source code of the Stratum switch operating system enabled priority queues in BMv2, with low queue rates that simulate harsh battlefield conditions. The ONOS CLI was enhanced with simple and intuitive prioritization commands, vital for dynamic and responsive network management. Experiments showed significant reductions in packet loss and delay when using the proposed prioritization approach, highlighting the efficacy of the developed tool.
