LoRa Signal Performance in Satellite-Assisted LPWANs Using Graham’s Algorithm

Efficient signal reception and attenuation management are critical for the performance of low-power wide area networks (LPWAN) like LoRa, especially when these networks integrate satellite connections, forming hybrid systems. This paper examines the behavior of the LoRa signal in relation to satellite reception. A LoRa network was developed using TTGO devices connected to the GPS satellite system to analyze the effects of attenuation on the loss of the minimum number of satellites required for trilateration between devices and satellites. To address this challenge, Graham’s algorithm was employed to enhance signal quality and strengthen the links between devices. This approach also successfully increased the number of satellites available in areas with limited signal access, thereby improving the overall connectivity and reliability of the hybrid LoRa network.
