Rotor Core Projection Ablation (RCPA): Novel Computational Approach to Catheter Ablation Therapy for Atrial Fibrillation

Atrial fibrillation (AF) poses significant challenges for healthcare systems, warranting novel approaches for its treatment. This study introduces a computational framework leveraging cardiac magnetic resonance imaging data and image-based modelling for guiding patient-specific catheter ablation (CA) therapy for AF. By employing Direct Graph Mapping (DGM) to identify stable AF drivers (rotors) in the image-based atrial models, we developed a novel, efficient AF ablation technique, Rotor Core Projection Ablation (RCPA). The RCPA method achieved 100% success rate in terminating AF after a single procedure, with 92.3% success rate for recurrent AF cases. Notably, RCPA minimizes the amount of ablated tissue, potentially improving treatment outcomes. The study highlights the importance of personalized CA procedures tailored to individual patients, thereby enhancing efficacy and reducing the risk of AF recurrence.
