Portuguese, a language of rich cultural heritage, is the official language of Portugal, Brazil, and seven other countries that are members of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries. This linguistic bond unifies these nations and fosters a profound sense of shared identity. Brazil, populated with several large metropolitan cities like São Paulo (with a population of 21 million surpassing many European capitals), testifies to the vibrancy and diversity of the Portuguese-speaking world. As the fifth-largest country worldwide by total area and seventh-largest by population, Brazil depends on its institutions for reliable data on its economic and social variables. Following the introduction, an overview of Brazil in numbers and facts, with its lack of education and other data on its population, is presented. Economic and spatial inequalities, especially Brazilian earnings and social indicators, are described before presenting its agribusiness sector as a global commodity supplier. The last theme of the chapter considers some challenges of the Brazilian economy nowadays.
