Horniman’s repertory theatre in Manchester inspired the founding of similar ventures across Britain. The focus of this chapter is the repertory theatre in Glasgow established by Alfred Wareing in 1911. Unlike the funding model behind the Manchester Gaiety, the repertory theatre in Glasgow operated on a subscription model. As with events in Manchester, however, the repertoire in Glasgow also regularly featured Shaw’s plays. This chapter explores several of such productions including performances of Mrs Warren’s Profession in 1913, marking the first performance of this then banned Shaw play outside London.
