Exploitation of Electric Vehicle Energy Storage Capabilities Considering the Smart Distribution System Concept
摘要
The number of renewable energy sources is increasing day by day, and so does the energy demand. These distributed generators feeding power dispersedly into the grid, intermittently causing reverse power flows. The focus of this research was the distribution network, in particular the low-voltage grid, where the relevant distributed generation technology is mainly solar power generation. Large-scale solar penetration brings several technical, economic, and regulatory challenges to the system that operators need to take care of to ensure the continuous operation of the electricity grid. Conventional grid development methodologies may not be able to solve these problems in a cost-effective way, so it is justified to study the applicability of smart network devices. In addition to distributed generators, the number of electric vehicles is growing, batteries of these, with the right charging strategy, can be a special type of energy storage. In this paper we investigated the exploitation of the energy storage capabilities of electric vehicles as a smart network device. Simulations on a LV network model based on real data have shown that the scheduled charging of electric vehicles is a very good way to remedy the voltage rise due to solar generation; however, it was assumed that EVs were connected to the grid at the right time.
