This study explores the legal frameworks for patent protection amidst the developments in digital technology, examining the role of international agreements in enhancing global protection for inventors’ rights. The study focuses on analyzing the scope of legal protection granted to patents and the impact of the granting state’s borders on the cross-border protection of inventions. It also highlights the role of prominent international agreements such as the Paris Convention, the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), and the TRIPS Agreement in providing an integrated framework for global patent protection. The study employed a descriptive-analytical approach to gather data from various sources, including legal texts and academic articles, while analyzing the effectiveness of these agreements in providing comprehensive international protection. The results indicated that effective protection requires patent registration in each country where the inventor seeks protection and that international agreements provide the essential principles needed, such as the right of priority and national treatment, without nullifying previous provisions but rather reinforcing them. The study recommends the need to raise awareness of the importance of international patent registration and to simplify the registration procedures to reduce costs and time. It also called for updating local legislation in member states to align with international principles and enhancing support for developing countries to ensure their ability to effectively protect their inventions within the international framework.
