Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), one of the leading causes of childhood blindness worldwide, is a vasoproliferative retinal disease characterized by abnormal vascularization in preterm infants. Early-stage ROP is treated with laser and anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) injections. However, 25% of treated eyes still develop retinal detachment and severe vision loss in the future.
