Pediatric retinal detachment (RD) is rare, accounting for 3.2–6.6% of all RD cases, and differs from adult RD in terms of etiology, anatomical features, and prognosis. It usually involves the macula and has poor visual acuity at onset. In addition, 40–45% of cases are accompanied by proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) stage C or higher at the time of diagnosis, which is associated with lower surgical success and higher reoperation rate, especially in children.
