Lamellar macular hole (LMH) is a partial-thickness macular defect characterized by an irregular foveal contour, intraretinal splitting, and intact photoreceptors. The prevalence varies between 0.3% and 1.1%. First described by Gass in 1976, this entity was later evaluated in detail, and subtypes were defined after the introduction of optical coherence tomography (OCT). Although patients may be asymptomatic in the early period, they can present with low vision, metamorphopsia, or central scotoma in later stages.
