The Obstacles Facing Student Guidance and Counseling Among High School Female Counselors in the City of Hail
摘要
The study aimed to highlight the obstacles facing student guidance and counseling among high school female counselors in the city of Hail, and to explore the statistically significant differences in these obstacles based on variables such as academic qualification, years of experience, number of training courses, and the duration of the training courses. To achieve these objectives, the study employed a descriptive comparative survey methodology. A specially designed questionnaire was used to collect data related to the obstacles in student guidance and counseling. The questionnaire included several sections to measure various aspects of the challenges faced by the counselors in performing their duties. A random sample of 27 high school female counselors in the city of Hail was selected. The validity and reliability of the questionnaire were ensured through Alpha Cronbach procedure before applying it to the study sample. The results indicated several obstacles faced by the counselors, the most prominent being the lack of a sufficient number of specialized counselors in the field of guidance and counseling, the lack of awareness among teachers about the role of the student counselor, and the focus on administrative tasks and records at the expense of the technical aspect of counseling. Additionally, the study found no statistically significant differences in the counseling obstacles based on the number of training courses and academic qualifications. However, there were statistically significant differences related to years of experience and training duration, favoring counselors with 1 to 3 years of experience and those who received training for a period ranging from one month to six months. Based on the findings, the study provided several recommendations to improve student guidance and counseling, the most important of which include increasing the number of student counselors in schools and providing necessary training and qualification for them, offering awareness programs for teachers about the role of the student counselor and its importance in supporting students, focusing on developing the skills of guidance supervisors in the technical aspect of counseling alongside administrative tasks, and organizing continuous training courses that cover various aspects of guidance and counseling, providing opportunities for professional development and experience exchange.
