Areas of Use of Artificial Intelligence in Historical Research: A Critical Analytical View of Approved Historical Research on Tools and Artificial Intelligence Models
摘要
This study is one of the analytical descriptive studies, which depends on the survey method for comprehensive data analysis of the second level (Meta-Analysis) for research conducted based on generative artificial intelligence models published in Arab and foreign refereed periodicals. The study used the PRISMA model, a set of guidelines, to report on systematic reviews and meta-analyses to document the study strategy, selection criteria and reasons for excluding studies, over a 2020–2024 period. The study found that artificial intelligence has revolutionized the field of history sciences by offering new tools and capabilities to researchers, which contributes to expanding the scope of the study and improving its accuracy and efficiency. Some of the most important areas of artificial intelligence in the science of history in order include analysis of historical texts and manuscripts, analysis of historical images, drawings and maps, analysis, and conversion of historical data into knowledge, analysis of archaeological sites, analysis and photography of the history of the daily life of previous civilizations, and the study also found that the methods used in the studies are mostly applied/experimental. It found that to date there is no study that used generative models (ChatGPT and Gemini) in writing historical research. The study recommended that artificial intelligence is an aid to human interpretation, not a substitute for it, and historians in all historical fields should use artificial intelligence wisely and critically, considering its limits and potential.
