The global automotive industry is experiencing a pivotal shift towards electric vehicles (EVs) to combat climate change. However, the pace of EV adoption in emerging economies significantly trails behind developed nations, presenting a critical challenge. This research investigates the multifaceted landscape of barriers hindering EV integration in emerging economies through a meticulous literature review and analysis. Economic challenges, including high upfront costs and inadequate charging infrastructure, emerge as primary obstacles. Moreover, policy uncertainties and societal attitudes impede progress, alongside technological limitations such as battery performance concerns and charging infrastructure compatibility issues. Proposed solutions encompass targeted interventions such as subsidies, supportive policies, public awareness campaigns, and research and development efforts. Our study emphasizes the necessity of a holistic approach to address these barriers comprehensively and accelerate EV adoption in emerging economies. By bridging the gap in adoption rates, policymakers, industry stakeholders, and researchers can contribute significantly to mitigating climate change and fostering sustainable transportation systems globally.
