Invertebrates make up most species in organismic biodiversity. Their life forms are diverse, and they are found in almost every microhabitat. Their movement patterns are also highly diverse. Therefore, it is necessary to adapt the sampling methods to the respective taxa and locations. Various methods and techniques are presented. Some methods depend on the observer’s efforts, but many are automated. This chapter also emphasizes whether the survey method records occurrences and frequencies or whether it is also able to determine abundance. In some cases, high species richness requires rapid recording, whereby species are differentiated as morphospecies by working names. This approach also opens the possibility of involving volunteers and nonscientists in large-scale surveys.
