Niches describe how a species utilizes existing resources. Niches are divided into different dimensions. Guilds are used to group species that use resources similarly. Examples of how birds search for food in vegetation are discussed. A distinction is made between micro-locations and foraging behavior. A classification of foraging behavior is presented. Closely related and ecologically similar pairs of species offer themselves as objects of observation and comparison. Species pairs of sparrows and primates are selected as examples. The niche differentiation of damselflies at water bodies is discussed.
