The Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (2015) emphasize the importance of implementing a student-centered teaching and learning process. It is highlighted that research and education institutions should ensure the implementation of study programmes in such a way that encourages students to take an active role in the study process, and student evaluation should reflect this approach. These changes can only be implemented comprehensively, i.e., by creating appropriate student-centered studies. After analysing the scientific literature, a wide range of interpretations of the concept of student-centered studies and different experiences of higher education institutions in implementing student-centered studies were observed. There is a lack of research that analyze the implementation of such studies in a specific higher education institution according to a unified system of criteria and indicators established and accepted by that institution. Thus, this article raises an actual scientific problem: what factors form the optimal prerequisites for the implementation of student-centered studies in a higher education institution implementing engineering studies? To solve this problem, the experience of Kaunas University of Applied Engineering Sciences (hereinafter – KTK) in implementing student-centered studies was used. The purpose of the article is to reveal students’ opinion about the implementation of student-centered studies at KTK. The first part of the article will present theoretical insights into the implementation of student-centered studies, as well as qualitative criteria and indicators for the implementation of the studies. The second part of the article is devoted to empirical research, the purpose of which is to reveal students’ opinion about the implementation of student-centered studies at KTK. The research used quantitative research methodology.

摘要
