This chapter examines the ethical obligations of healthcare providers in trauma care, focusing on both formal and informal (family) caregivers. It explores the psychological costs of supporting traumatized individuals, including concepts like vicarious trauma, moral distress, and compassion fatigue. Two ethical theories—care ethics and feminist ethics—are applied to nursing practice, providing insights into the relational and ethical responsibilities in trauma care. This chapter critically evaluates how trauma is identified and responded to across different caregiving settings, ultimately aiming to challenge the traditional separation between formal and informal caregivers.
