Hope Emily Allen (1883–1960) was a scholar who established the importance of Middle English religious writings, especially those by women, for the field of Medieval Studies. Allen’s most well-remembered contributions are her editions of English mystical texts, including Ancrene Wisse, and her identification of the then newly discovered manuscript of the Book of Margery Kempe. She maintained collaborative relationships with a variety of friends and colleagues through personal correspondence, which is now archived.
