Zheng Yunduan (1327–1356) was a renowned and prolific woman poet in the late Yuan dynasty (1279–1368). She consciously distinguished her poems from the traditional feminine mode and wrote in a wide range of themes, including gender inequality. She was one of the earliest women poets to reflect on women’s existence within a patriarchal social system and to express her resentment and criticism in many of her poems.
