Anne of France (1461–1522), also known as Anne of Beaujeu and Madame la Grande, was the duchess of Bourbon, daughter of king Louis XI of France (1423–1483) and Charlotte of Savoy. Between 1483 and 1491–1492, she served as unofficial regent of France and wielded significant political influence in that role and as duchess of Bourbon. She wrote an advice book to her daughter Suzanne of Bourbon (1491–1521), entitled Lessons for My Daughter together with her adaptation of The History of the Siege of Brest (1505). The Lessons aim to formulate the ideal princess in a series of lessons that follow the pattern of different stages in Suzanne’s life, while providing insight into Anne’s navigation of political life at the French court.
