Elisabeth von Kirchberg
摘要
Elisabeth von Kirchberg was a fourteenth-century nun in the Dominican convent Kirchberg (South-West Germany) and the author of two texts, the Kirchberger Schwesternbuch (sister book) and the Irmgard Vita. A third text, transmitted with the sister book in two manuscripts, has previously been attributed to Elisabeth but was not written by her. Biographical information can only be taken from the Irmgard Vita: Elisabeth states that she is of Jewish heritage and that she had been at Kirchberg for 42 years at the time of writing. The sister book and the vita exhibit similar editorial and stylistic characteristics, e.g., a self-assured narrator and a distinct differentiation of divine graces, which are unique to Elisabeth’s texts. For both texts, there is a late medieval as well as a modern manuscript transmission.
