Liber divinorum operum ( The Book of Divine Works) was Hildegard of Bingen’s third and final volume of major visions, completed in 1173 or 1174. Consisting of ten visions in three parts and inspired by the Prologue of John’s Gospel, it focuses on “the work of God” as both all of creation and humankind in particular. The work survives in both the first fair-copy manuscript and an elaborate illustrated one. However, it was not widely read except in prophetic excerpts concerning the Antichrist and apocalyptic writings.
