Ōtomo no Sakanoue no Iratsume
摘要
Ōtomo no Sakanoue no Iratsume was a female waka poet of eighth-century Japan and a central figure in the aristocratic Ōtomo clan. Her poetry is illustrative of the manifold roles she played in her life: as daughter, wife, mother, and clan matriarch. She is the major woman poet of the Man’yōshū, the oldest extant collection of vernacular waka poetry.
