Song Ruoshen and her four sisters flourished as writers in the Inner Palace of the Tang dynasty (618–907) from the late eighth century to the first third of the nineth century. They provide an example of sister authors, a common phenomenon in the history of women’s writing in imperial China. Furthermore, they constitute an extremely rare case of sisterly collective success in contribution to both literature and politics at imperial level.
