Eleanor Hull, Dame
摘要
Dame Eleanor Hull (c. 1394–1460) is the first named English woman to translate French medieval religious texts. At least two texts ( A Commentary on the Seven Psalms and Meditatacyons on the VII days of the woke) are attributed to her, and she may also have translated another set of prayers and meditations as well as part of the Légende Dorée. Her translations demonstrate the degree to which pious laywomen of the early fifteenth century were involved in the dissemination of devotional literature.
