The poem, To Countess Adela ( Adelae Comitissae), addressed to Countess Adela of Blois (c. 1067–1137), was written by the clergyman and poet Baudri of Bourgeuil (c. 1046–1130). It comprises a series of ekphrases describing the imagined bedchamber of the countess. To Countess Adela demonstrates the twelfth-century intellectual environment, as well as providing an unique recounting of the Norman Conquest (Bachrach, Anglo-Norman Studies. The Boydell Press, Woodbridge, 2013).
