Angela of Foligno
摘要
Angela of Foligno (d. 1309) was a lay penitent who aligned herself to the Lesser Brothers of Umbria and particularly to the memory of Francis of Assisi. The texts attributed to and associated with her present a range of issues in terms of language, authorship, and manuscript transmission. But these texts present a rich set of theological views which focus on a radical transformation of the self into the suffering Christ. From her own time to the present day, Angela’s texts have never been forgotten and have a long history of being read in a variety of contexts, for example, by Lutherans and Carmelites during the sixteenth century and by Protestants, Catholics, and Orthodox theologians in the twentieth century, with her texts being held up for a range of purposes today.
