The Évangiles des Quenouilles is a collection of fifteenth-century folk beliefs compiled by an unidentified male author, and presented within a literary frame. They relate to the preoccupations of women, specifically marriage and children, relationships between husbands and wives, as well as the health and well-being of people and animals. Each evening follows the same pattern with the identification of the chair of the session, her portrait and her life experiences, then the beliefs she will share with other women, a content which is divided between text and gloss. The whole constitutes a solid unifying framework for the diversity and heterogeneity of the beliefs.
