Integrative Approach to Chronic Kidney Disease
摘要
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a multifaceted and complex chronic medical condition affecting millions of individuals across the globe, and diabetes is the leading cause of end-stage kidney disease in the USA. Chronic kidney disease often impacts multiple organ systems of the affected individuals and various aspects of their personal and social lives. Thus, only an integrated multidisciplinary approach can provide comprehensive and holistic care to address the complex needs of this patient population. In this chapter, we describe various nutritional requirements in patients with chronic kidney disease as well as recommendations for the intake of proteins and various electrolytes. We also discuss the vital role played by a renal dietitian, family, social support, and renal social worker, early referral to a nephrologist, and prompt recognition, and treatment of depression in this patient population along with addressing their exercise needs. Finally, we consider the role of omnipresent technology and its various applications in the care of the chronic kidney disease population.
