摘要
The chapter analyses the 2024 European Parliament elections in Bulgaria, which coincided for the first time with snap national elections and an unprecedented political crisis that resulted in seven elections in just three years. The campaign for the 2024 EP election failed to highlight the European priorities and policies, instead focusing on domestic issues. The consecutive elections in the country seem to have reinforced a climate of disillusionment and indifference of citizens to engage with politics, leading to a low voter turnout. Yet, looking at the results, one may speak of a victory for pro-European parties, while an increase in support for Eurosceptic parties can also be observed. Three mainstream political formations structure the country’s pro-European bloc, namely the coalitions GERB-SDS and PP-DB, as well as the DPS. Eurosceptic messages gravitate around two poles: soft (ITN) and hard (Revival).
