The 2024 European Parliament elections in Romania coincided with local elections. The results consolidated the position of the two parties in the current governing coalition and confirmed the pre-existing ascent of radical right parties in the country. While domestic political discourse dominated these elections, reference was made to the EU, echoing concerns about the importance of stability and the fight against extremism at the EU level. The chapter argues that although the local issues hindered the discussion of topics from a European perspective during the campaign, the EP electoral campaign also influenced the local elections, enhancing the electoral performance of the ‘anti-globalist’ camp.
