The 2024 European Parliament elections were held just one year after the Greek legislative elections of June 2023. The 2024 EP elections followed the pattern of previous EP elections in Greece, as they were viewed as second-order elections, offering voters the opportunity to express their assessment of both the government’s record and the opposition. The 2024 elections were unique in that they occurred at a moment of political upheaval for Greek parties and in a context of uncertainty both internationally and domestically. The outcome of the election was marked by a record low turnout and a significant fall in support for the government. This chapter provides an account of the electoral process in 2024, contextualised in the history of EP elections and party politics in Greece. It includes an overview of the institutional and party-political context, the historical positions of parties and voters towards the European Union, and an analysis of the election results. The chapter concludes with a discussion of the potential political consequences of these elections for the Greek political party system and the future party landscape.
