The article is concerned with studying the influence of gearshift moments on the speed characteristics and fuel efficiency of city buses with diesel engines. The paper presents analytical and experimental studies on the influence of the moments of shifting adjacent gears on the speed characteristics and fuel efficiency of a city bus with a diesel engine during acceleration with full and partial engine load. The optimal moments of gear shifting are determined. Theoretical and experimental studies were carried out on a city bus Bogdan A092.04 to determine the optimal moments of gear shifting during acceleration at full and partial engine load. It was found that optimization of gearshift moments can reduce fuel consumption without significantly reducing acceleration dynamics. Particular attention is paid to the study of bus operation in urban conditions, where the engine often operates at partial load. Recommendations for the application of gearshift laws that provide fuel savings of 4–15% depending on load and speed are proposed. The possibility of automating gear shifting in order to maximize fuel efficiency and reduce harmful emissions is considered. The research results can be used to improve the performance of urban transport and reduce fuel costs.
