This paper examines the scope for implementation of blockchain technology as an optimum solution for addressing prevalent challenges in prison governance, particularly corruption and administrative inadequacies. The paper explores how blockchain’s innate attributes—immutability, transparency, and decentralization—can recreate a map for the administration of correctional institutions through distributed ledger systems and smart contracts. The study demonstrates that blockchain implementation could strengthen the integrity of inmate records, improve resource allocation monitoring, and automate critical administrative tasks. Smart contracts could be beneficial in streamlining procedures such as inmate release protocols and supply chain management, reducing openings for corruption and administrative delays. While acknowledging significant implementation barriers, including data-breach concerns and infrastructure requirements, the research indicates that blockchain embedded system could substantially advance United Nations Sustainable Development Goals within prison system. The paper concludes that despite multifarious challenges, incorporation of blockchain represents a paradigm shift in prison governance, offering unprecedented benefits in context of transparency, accountability, and faith of public that could very well extend beyond corrections to broader public administration reform.
