Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is well-established as a first line treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder and is recommended in clinical practice guidelines. However, dissemination and implementation has lagged behind development and research on the model, with reach of CPT relatively low across both community and federal military/veteran clinical settings. This chapter discusses the training and dissemination efforts that have been undertaken to increase the spread of CPT to community healthcare settings, as well as some of the barriers and successes associated with these efforts. We will review examples of current dissemination models in a variety of community settings and discuss considerations for implementing CPT with community providers. While training has advanced, and thousands of providers are trained in CPT, additional efforts are needed to overcome challenges to CPT implementation to ensure its availability on the frontlines of mental healthcare.
