This chapter reviews the impact of climate change on ecosystem goods, services, and livelihoods in semi-arid savannahs, focusing on nature-based tourism. A systematic and bibliometric review of studies from 1992 to 2023 and case studies from southern Africa Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCAs) was used to: (a) analyse literature trends on climate change effects on ecosystem goods and services in rural and protected areas in southern Africa; (b) explore the literature on climate change impacts on ecosystem goods, services, and nature-based tourism in these areas; and (c) document potential adaptation options to mitigate climate change impacts on ecosystem goods and services in TFCAs. Qualitative data were analyzed using VOSViewer version 1.6.19 and content analysis, while quantitative analysis was performed using the WoS Clavariate platform. The review indicates that climate change-induced events such as tropical cyclones, droughts, heat waves, and other extreme weather interact with disturbances such as fire, deforestation, and excessive herbivory, leading to habitat changes. These changes compromise the resilience of nature-based recreation and tourism, affecting drought-stricken communities that rely on terrestrial and aquatic goods and services. These findings highlight the need for ongoing monitoring and management of habitats to prevent degradation and loss of critical goods and services. To protect nature-based tourism in tropical savannahs from climate change, stakeholders are considering restoration projects to enhance the resilience of the natural systems.
