Stateless and Supranational: Tracing the Dissolution of a Yugoslav Cultural Community (1987–1992)
摘要
The first chapter of this book begins with the “last Yugoslav exhibition”, focusing on the 1987 and 1989 edition of the Jugoslovenska Dokumenta. Hereby, it traces the reactions of the Sarajevan art scene to the growing political and economic instability within cultural circles, and eventually, the advent of war. Introducing the analytical framework of a Yugoslav common cultural sphere, it addressing addresses how the concept was invoked, addressed, or denigrated by cultural actors as a means of reframing discussions about late-Yugoslav cultural production from a non-institutional vantage point. Furthermore, it describes the aftermath of this last great Yugoslav exhibition, following the Sarajevan artistic community in their country’s rocky transition to democratic process.
