Workplace safety is an essential priority for any organization. Preventing accidents and promoting a safe work environment are crucial goals for ensuring employee well-being and improving environmental performance. Detecting and recording accidents, which cause serious or minor injuries, is relatively simple because they are obvious and have tangible and immediate consequences that can be observed and documented easily. However, identifying and recording near misses and, even more so, unsafe conditions is more complex as they do not always result in tangible damage or injury. While an actual incident leads to tangible damage or injury, the near miss is fortunately stopped before actual damage occurs. It is precisely for this reason that near-miss analysis is extremely important, as it provides an opportunity to detect and correct causes before they turn into actual, damaging accidents. It is also more difficult to detect but if detected can be very useful for preventing future accidents. This paper covers the basic concepts related to near misses, from analyzing regulatory references to outlining strategies for handling such situations. Through the case study, an example of near miss that occurred within a construction company is examined. The example of near-miss management discussed in this work illustrates how effective handling can prevent future incidents and improve overall workplace safety. In summary, addressing near misses requires a systematic and inclusive approach. Updating the reporting module is an important advancement, but it is crucial to pair this with a strategy for raising awareness and actively involving employees to ensure its effectiveness and success.
