Vestibulocochlear Nerve Lesions
摘要
The vestibulocochlear nerve includes both an auditory portion responsible for hearing, and a vestibular portion responsible for balance and eye movements. The sensory receptors for both the vestibular and auditory portion of the nerves are hair cells, and it is the mechanical movement of the hair cells which leads to changes in the afferent nerve signal. It is these hair cells that translate information about sound and balance into nerves signals.
