Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) fellowship trains Ob/Gyn subspecialists to manage complex obstetrical, medical, and surgical complications of pregnancy and their effects on both the mother and the fetus. Fellowships are typically three years in length, divided into two years of clinical training and at least one year of research training. MFM programs can vary greatly in the volume and variety of clinical experiences as well as the exposure to both basic science and translational research opportunities. While MFM fellowship is not traditionally as rigorous as obstetrics and gynecology residency, it can be demanding, and applicants should be prepared for this as they decide to continue their medical training.
