This chapter examines Junayd’s treatises, sayings, poetry and commentary on the ecstatic sayings, shaṭaḥāt, of certain Sufis. As in the previous chapter, this chapter also elaborates on the major themes, rhetoric and styles of Junayd’s pieces of authorship in an attempt to reconstruct his unique role as a profound architect of Sufi piety and, in broader terms, as an architect of classical Islamic thought.
