This chapter focuses on identifying soil erosion hotspots (SEH) in the Damodar River Basin, specifically within the catchments of Maithon, PanchetPanchet, and TenughatTenughat Dams, usingSediment delivery ratio Sediment Delivery Ratio (SDR) modeling. The objective is to examine the relationship between soil erosion (SE) and sediment yield (SY) and understand how erosion hotspots influence sedimentation in the dam catchments. SDR modeling helps quantify the amount of eroded soil that is transported to water bodies, identifying critical areas with high erosion rates that contribute significantly to sediment yield. This chapter analyzes spatial variations in soil erosion, linking areas of intense erosion to increased sediment delivery and deposition in the dams. The impact of these hotspots on dam performance, including sedimentation andReservoir capacity reservoir capacity, is assessed. Findings indicate that soil erosionSoil erosion hotspotsSoil erosion hotspot are major contributors to sedimentation issues in the catchments, affecting theLong-term sustainability long-term sustainability and efficiency of the dams. The research underscores the importance of identifying and managing erosion hotspots to mitigate sedimentation, improve soil conservation practices, and enhance reservoir management strategies in the region. This chapter provides valuable insights for developing targeted interventions to reduce soil erosion and its adverse effects on sedimentation in the Damodar River Basin’s major dams.

摘要
