In the framework of an extensive project aimed to the conservation and valorisation of the Tavole Palatine and the Metaponto Archaeological Site Park located in the South of Italy, the museum directorate of the Basilicata region decided to carry out a campaign on chemical-physical, mineralogical-petrographic and thermographic investigations during the winter-spring period of 2023. The following archaeological monuments of Greek origin: Tavole Palatine, Ekklesias terion Theatre and Hera, Ionic, Apollo Temples were considered. The results of the investigations presented in this paper will be used to design a pilot study to be carried out in the archaeological site in order to identify the most suitable restoration procedures for the conservation of the ancient Greek monuments. The investigations carried out showed that the deterioration processes are mainly influenced by biodeteriogenic agents associated with natural weathering. In previous restoration works in correspondence to missing stone material areas of the column of Tavole Palatine grounting mortars were applied. In order to study the moisture exchange behaviour of original stone material and the restoration plaster areas some measurements of water absorption and water vapor permeability were carried out.
