Rectal prolapse is a relatively common condition in children. It is defined as the circumferential protrusion of some or the entire rectal wall through the external anal opening. Rectal prolapse in children occurs between infancy and 4 years of age but it is more common during the first year of life. Most cases of rectal prolapse in children are self-limiting and disappear spontaneously. This chapter discuss the etiology, classification, clinical features and treatment of rectal prolapse in children.
