Edusemiotics appears, under this name, in Danesi’s foreword to a book edited by Inna Semetsky (Danesi 2010). In the years following this publication, Semetsky and Stables have published frequently, together and separately, on edusemiotics, the branch of semiotics that they founded. In retrospect, it is tempting to say that their intellectual encounter was inevitable: long before these publications, each of these scholars had explored similar questions, drawn upon the same thinkers, and defended particularly compatible epistemological principles. Although edusemiotics did not formally appear until 2010, its foundations have been built over a long period of time, notably and essentially thanks to the work of these two authors.
