Monitoring biodiversity is crucial to prevent and reduce biodiversity loss. Insects, which are rapidly declining, are vital to ecosystems, making their conservation essential. Remote sensing, using satellites, drones, and high-flying airplanes, offers an efficient way to gather data on insect populations. This chapter explores how remote sensing can detect insects indirectly by observing plant damage and stress responses, or directly through technologies such as vertical-looking radar. Indirect detection methods include analyzing plant spectral reflectance and structural changes, while direct methods involve tracking insect movements and thermal imaging. These advanced techniques provide valuable insights into insect populations, aiding in the development and assessment of conservation strategies.
