Recycling offers a powerful solution to reduce pollution, offering multiple environmental benefits by transforming waste into reusable materials. This chapter explores the significance of recycling in the context of electric car batteries, coal ash, and textiles. It highlights the challenges in recycling lithium-ion batteries, with techniques like pyrometallurgy and hydrometallurgy being explored. The potential of coal ash for extracting rare minerals, such as yttrium, is discussed as a sustainable alternative to mining. Furthermore, the recycling of clothes through reusing, respinning, and chemical processes is examined, showing how waste can be turned into valuable new products.
