The Background of Robotic Surgery
摘要
This chapter delves into the transformative journey of surgical robotics, tracing its inception from early virtual reality and robotics innovations at NASA and the US Military to its current prominence in modern surgery. Initially aimed at extending human capabilities into space and on the battlefield, these technologies laid the groundwork for the surgical robots we know today. Here, we explore key milestones in the evolution of surgical robotics, including the integration of laparoscopic techniques with robotic systems, the advent of the first FDA-approved surgical robot, AESOP, and the development of the Da Vinci Surgical System by Intuitive Surgical. These systems revolutionized minimally invasive surgery, offering enhanced precision, dexterity, and visualization. Looking forward, we discuss the potential fusion of robotics with artificial intelligence, promising even greater advancements in surgical care.
